blocks and blocks of tents, card board boxes, hundreds of homeless people with.

a look of desperation on their faces.

jesus taught that we must die unto ourselves, and allow the holy spirit to take up residence within us.

some people get saved by simply inviting jesus into their hearts, to be the lord of their life.

this serves as a countering force within the born-again christian to counterbalance the will of the flesh, which is still unsaved in this life and destined for destruction in imitation of our lord himself.. attempting to live the christian life without having this spirit within you is a waste of time at the minimum, and dangerous on the downside.

Non-rhetorical answer: Religious groups like this are always founded by a charismatic leader who's adept at drawing a crowd of followers. I doubt that a dozen men of lesser imagination could get together and say to each other, "Let's invent a Messiah!" and actually pull it through.

Did others experience this on the ministry or among JWs generally?

sometimes it's hard to know if our own experience of jws was typical and what features were peculiar to our own area or the individual jws we knew personally.

i was wondering if others experienced this among jws:.

a few times on the ministry, when we were working wealthy areas with large houses, some brothers and sisters would make the comment that they look forward to taking ownership of one of these big houses after armageddon, when the worldly people have vacated them.

Strange, how they picture Armageddon in their literature with fireballs destroying buildings. What would be left to inherit?

something that says "religion is crap, i don't care which one".. i was thinking of adapting the "coexist" one to say "toxic" instead which is great because it removes 'science' but includes all the major world religions.. anyone else have any ideas?.

also a tag-line ... "whatever god you worship, he's a weirdigan".

once upon a time i started a thread who is your favorite thinker and got many responses.

however revisiting that thread i noted we were to modest to name ourselves or fellow posters.

i therefore think we are either complete idiots, or modesty aside we should now name names, and restrict our answers to posters on the board.. so who on this board is your favorite thinker and why?.

"New Heavens & New Earth" (Why The Need For New Heavens?)

i have been thinking about this phrase lately "new heavens & new earth".

the new earth piece i guess i can see that one...... (still not really sure about that one) .

but why the need for "new heavens"?

I think the JW response is that the new heavens refers to the actual atmosphere of the earth. It would be new if the pre-flood atmosphere were to return.
